A few information about Kazakhstan

KazakhStanGirl

December 16th 1991 is the official date that Kazakhstan declared its independency. Many of the groups moved to Kazakhstan by Stalin now had the oportunity to return to their home countries. Also many Russians returned to their home country and Kazakhstan was facing a dramatic decline in population. About 2 million people left the country in just a few years, which equals about 15% of the total population.
Stalin used it as a remote place to hide millions of  Kazakh people from other parts of the country: Koreans, Germans and Jews. The area of Semipaletinsk in the north-east was used for the nuclear bomb testings and all space rockets were launched from Baykonur. Where the Americans needed the sea for a proper landing of their space capsules, the Sovjets managed to land on the Kazakh steppes from the beginning.

Kazakhstan is the second largest republic of the former Soviet Union. Although it is thinly populated, it has played an important role in Soviet history.
